Seeing that biking is becoming a permanent part of our lives, Jennifer and I also decided to upgrade our bikes. We were both looking at the sales and checking Craigslist daily. As luck would have it, we both found bikes on Craigslist in the first part of December. And even more of a coincidence, they are both 2009 Fuji Roubaixs. Hers is the RC model, and mine is the one notch below Pro model.
So now, in the heart of winter, it is time for us to look at the 2012 calendar and commit to some events. Nothing is absolutely set in stone right now, but these are the events we have talked about.
Most Likely
America’s Most Beautiful Ride – Lake Tahoe – June 3rd, 2012
We are pretty much definitely going on this ride. I have been selected as a Team in Training Ambassador, so I will also be helping to recruit other TNT participants.
Denver Century – June 17th, 2012
Last year’s course was very similar to the unofficial Tour de Denver we did as part of our training for Moab. This year, the ride starts in Stapleton, heads west to go up and over Lookout Mountain, and then heads north up around Superior before heading east across the North Denver Metro. This is on Father’s Day, but it will be nice to do a local event.
Tony’s-to-Tony’s Ride – October 2012
We did this ride last year it was a lot of fun. It is 71 miles and visits all four Tony’s Market locations. Each location provides food and it is absolutely fantastic. We can’t wait to do it again this year.
Maybe
Moab Century Tour – September 2012
I did this event in 2011, and Jennifer did it in 2010 & 2011. It is a fun event and I would like to do it again, but I’m not sure I can fit it in with my work schedule. If we do go, we will have decide once again if we want to do the 100 mile Dead Horse Point course or the 105 mile Big Nasty course. (This is the fall Rocky Mountain Team in Training cycling event.)
Not Sure
- Boulder Sunrise Century – June 23rd
- Moonlight Classic – Denver – July 16th
- Mt Evans Climb – July 21st
- Colorado-Eagle River Ride – July 28th
- Copper Triangle – August 4th
- BStrong Ride – August 11th – Celestial Seasonings in Boulder
- Circle the Summit – August 18th
Not Likely
Deer Creek Challenge – August 2012
This is billed as America’s toughest century ride. The 100 mile course includes 12,751 feet of vertical gain. Last year, we did the 33 mile course a couple of times during our training for Moab. Even that has 4,200 feet in vertical gain. This one is a good goal for us, but I am not sure this is the year. If we do sign up, we might try the metric century instead.
This is one of the premier events in Colorado, but also has a ton of climbing and is 120 miles. We both want to do this, but not sure if we would be ready this year.
If you want to join us on one of these events, just send me an email at patrick@pganderson.com.
