pencil John Oliver gives one of the best overviews on the problems with standardized testing in our education system. These tests are suppose to hold the schools accountable but instead just stress out the kids, teachers, and parents. Large corporations like Pearson have lobbied law makers to make these tests a requirement so they can provide the tests, the study material for the tests, and the certification for teachers to teach the material. The tests don’t benefit the children or the learning process.

What can you do about it? Contact your child’s principal, school board, legislators, etc. and let them know how you feel. More importantly, “opt out” your kids from taking these tests.
