I now have less than 60 days before I take part in a 100 mile bike ride in Moab to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Our team has been training for just over two months and we have been making steady progress. On Tuesday ee were each asked to confirm our commitment to doing the ride and meeting our fundraising goal.

After the past few weeks of training, I feel confident that I will be ready to tackle the 100 mile road course and I gladly recommitted to doing the 100 miler. Our coach and my fellow teammates have helped me get in good shape and I have two more months of training to get even better. My motivation is helped by the fact that we have three cancer survivors on our team.

Now comes the hard part. I have also committed to raising $2,500 so the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can help patients and do research to find a cure for these terrible diseases. I need your help to reach that goal.

Before you dismiss this email thinking “I can’t afford to donate any money right now with the economy the way it is,” I want you to consider a few things…

  • People don’t stop getting cancer when the economy is in a slump. Now more than ever, LLS can use your help. The money you donate not only goes to fund research, but it also financially helps families deal with the cost of hospital stays and medication, which (as many of you know) can be substantial.
  • Everyone can use another deduction on their taxes. 100% of whatever amount you donate to LLS is tax-deductible. Plus, 75% of the money you donate goes directly to fund research and patient services. That’s one of the highest percentages out there among charitable organizations.
  • If that doesn’t inspire you, how about this: Leukemia is the No. 1 disease killer of children under 14 years of age and strikes 10 times as many adults. Once again, I am asking for your financial support in my pursuit to raise funds to find a cure for leukemia and other blood-related cancers.
